Have you seen my hairy quivers?

Writer's picture: Dan BurrDan Burr

The medieval crossbow as status symbol spared no cost in terms of craftsmanship, artistry, and embellishment. Often times covered in ivory or horn panels, deeply engraved with scenes of the hunt or God's and Goddesses of old. Complex trigger systems were popular and told your peers you spent a LOT on your equipment.

The crossbow quiver was no exception. It's odd upside down fluted shape and fur covering didn't quite got the style of the period in my opinion, SGD would look more at home on The Maasai Maro or Amazon interior.

Although many varieties exist, boar skin, hair and all was all the rage, as was a biomechanically designed opening not unlike an H.R Gieger painting.
